Olivia Thirlby: Youthful Chic

You might have seen Olivia Thirlby as Juno's best friend. I saw her most recently in last month's Vogue.
Here she is with Zoe Kravitz, as the "short" shape in Vogue's shape issue. I would have never guessed her as short, but she is definitely stylish. So the dress she is wearing looks semi-see through, but it is an interesting, risky choice, that is perfect for Vogue!

Thirlby has had a few movies out, this picture is from the premeire of Snow Angels (I believe), and as you might have gathered, I love the shape of dresses like this! I think the long sleeves and tulle stripes are great, and really make the dress interesting.

Her dress in this picture is super youthful, super fun, and I love the colors (and the flowers in the background).
And she's just so romantic in this picture! I think we're going to see more of her--in more movies, more magazines, she's just cute and spunky and young and beautiful!

Katy Perry at the House of Blues Boston

Last night I went to see Katy Perry at the House of Blues, and she was looking as fine as ever. She wore a super-sparkly top and no pants of course. Her top matched her microphone! I just wish sometimes that I could pull off a sparkly bustier. Where would I ever wear it?

Penelope Cruz Style: The Face of Spain

To me, Penelope Cruz represents the female face of Spain. She is so sexy, yet sweet, beautiful and tough, a woman representing contradictions, like the country itself. She's been in the press recently with some high profile things--winning an Oscar for Vicky Cristina Barcelona, and being the face of Mango (my personal favorite Spanish clothing line!).

I loved her last two Oscar dresses, and her 2009 Oscar style was what inspired me for this post. The dresses couldn't be more different in concept--2008 was contemporary, sleek, modern, and 2009 was vintage couture, romantic. But the shape and feeling of her two styles are so similar, and it just makes her look gorgeous in both. It works.

I've loved Cruz's last few movies, specifically Vicky Cristina Barcelona and Volver. Both very Spanish, both portraying beautiful, strong, slightly crazy Spanish women. She just oozes sexiness in Vicky Cristina Barcelona, tousled hair, cigarette, I don't give a damn look. Then, in addition to her great acting and stunning movies, she looks just as stunning in her Mango ads. She is super cute, less rough, but as always gorgeous. Does she ever have a bad hair day? Or just not look good?

I wanted to be Chuck in Pushing Daisies. Maybe now I just want to be Penelope!

Kate Winslet: Classic Movie Star Style

I love this photo of Ms. Kate Winslet. She really is the movie star of the year, and her style is so classic. Just look at her poise with all that paparazzi!

I know she doesn't seem to care too much about her regular day clothes, but I think that adds to her stunningness on the red carpet and appearances. It makes her a regular person with an alternate, fabulous persona.

This season's award shows and red carpets really showed off her beautiful hourglass figure. And that blue dress just pops on the red carpet and complements her skin.
I think the neckline of the black dress is stunning, and adds interest to an otherwise standard black dress.

I don't know if I loved her Oscar dress, but I loved the way she pulled it off--subtle makeup, clean, chic hair, and a voluptuous body. And she seemed like she knew she was going to win, so that probably helped her confidence.

Back to StyleIdol

Ok, so I abandoned this blog for a while. A LONG while. But I think I'm going to come back to it. I just reread some of the posts I had made, and I think they are really good. And I miss writing about people whose style I adore.
I just need a little more inspiration. I have the time. It is much better to spend it on this than playing Spider Solitaire. I can't promise a post every day, or even every week, but I'm going to get back on it!

OK, so who should be next? I have some ideas, but if you suggest some, I think that would be fun too!!!

America Ferrera

Did I ever mention how beautiful America Ferrera is? Goregeous. And her show, Ugly Betty, is so sweet, so heartwarming, so feel good!

I saw her on the View the other day (I admit it, I was watching bad daytime TV...) and she looked especially good in a striking red dress. Here's a clip:

Mini-Idol: Desiree Rogers

Thanks to Jezebel, I found this amazing woman, who is going to be the next White House Social Secretary. The Wellesley Alum, class of '81, currently is the President of Social Networking for Allstate. The pic above is her at the Ravinia music festival, outside of Chicago. I couldn't find too many public pictures of her, but I can't wait to see more of her, and more awesome fashion like that multicolored floaty dress!

Jezebel writes that at the White House, Rogers will be:
"In charge of everything about every public event the President and First Lady do — from state dinners to the Easter Egg Roll to the Christmas parties and everything in between...She's got to know every bit of protocol for every state dinner; make every guest list and every seating chart; coordinate security; choose menus; find entertainment; and satisfy every single person involved."

Sounds kind of amazing, and very nerve wracking.

She also rocks a suit like nobody else.

Rihanna

I was totally going to pick Rihanna as the next StyleIdol, and then I saw her perform Rehab on the American Music Awards tonight. WTF? She was wearing this crazy studded cape and dominatrix-like jumpsuit (which I guess is her signature) with a rhinestone eye patch. An eye patch? Seriously? I don't know, but sometimes she hits it just right, and sometimes she's a crazy space-age pirate. But I'm still going to pick her, because despite the video below, she is pretty hot, in a very modern, current, youthful way. And her music gets stuck in my head too.

Her silhouette is pretty gorgeous on stage though her outfit may not be.

But I really love her style in the Rehab video featuring JT. It is so hot, with those red lips, and JT is pretty damn hot too.

This is last year at the AMAs. Kinda kooky too.

And sure, she's been mistaken for Prince, but she is pretty stylish and feminine sometimes too! (Pics from Jezebel)

I just love that green, and her silhouette is gorgeous and classic.Fun skirt!
I like the way she does the high waisted pants. And that dog doesn't even look like a real dog.

Pushing Daisies Effectively Cancelled

Despite professing my undying love for everything Pushing Daisies (and specifically Anna Friel), ABC has decided not to extend the show past its 13 episodes this season. I am terribly sad that I will not get to watch any more of my favorite show, and not get to see what delicious outfits Chuck wears each week. Tear.

Look, Ned is sad too.

Gorgeous Pushing Daisies Evening Gown

I'm posting again about Pushing Daisies! I just watched yesterday's episode, and Chuck is wearing a gorgeous evening gown. I didn't find any good pictures of it, so its in the video. If you don't know, Chuck is the dark haired woman talking about the BLT.
