Olivia Thirlby: Youthful Chic

You might have seen Olivia Thirlby as Juno's best friend. I saw her most recently in last month's Vogue.
Here she is with Zoe Kravitz, as the "short" shape in Vogue's shape issue. I would have never guessed her as short, but she is definitely stylish. So the dress she is wearing looks semi-see through, but it is an interesting, risky choice, that is perfect for Vogue!

Thirlby has had a few movies out, this picture is from the premeire of Snow Angels (I believe), and as you might have gathered, I love the shape of dresses like this! I think the long sleeves and tulle stripes are great, and really make the dress interesting.

Her dress in this picture is super youthful, super fun, and I love the colors (and the flowers in the background).
And she's just so romantic in this picture! I think we're going to see more of her--in more movies, more magazines, she's just cute and spunky and young and beautiful!

Katy Perry at the House of Blues Boston

Last night I went to see Katy Perry at the House of Blues, and she was looking as fine as ever. She wore a super-sparkly top and no pants of course. Her top matched her microphone! I just wish sometimes that I could pull off a sparkly bustier. Where would I ever wear it?

Penelope Cruz Style: The Face of Spain

To me, Penelope Cruz represents the female face of Spain. She is so sexy, yet sweet, beautiful and tough, a woman representing contradictions, like the country itself. She's been in the press recently with some high profile things--winning an Oscar for Vicky Cristina Barcelona, and being the face of Mango (my personal favorite Spanish clothing line!).

I loved her last two Oscar dresses, and her 2009 Oscar style was what inspired me for this post. The dresses couldn't be more different in concept--2008 was contemporary, sleek, modern, and 2009 was vintage couture, romantic. But the shape and feeling of her two styles are so similar, and it just makes her look gorgeous in both. It works.

I've loved Cruz's last few movies, specifically Vicky Cristina Barcelona and Volver. Both very Spanish, both portraying beautiful, strong, slightly crazy Spanish women. She just oozes sexiness in Vicky Cristina Barcelona, tousled hair, cigarette, I don't give a damn look. Then, in addition to her great acting and stunning movies, she looks just as stunning in her Mango ads. She is super cute, less rough, but as always gorgeous. Does she ever have a bad hair day? Or just not look good?

I wanted to be Chuck in Pushing Daisies. Maybe now I just want to be Penelope!

Kate Winslet: Classic Movie Star Style

I love this photo of Ms. Kate Winslet. She really is the movie star of the year, and her style is so classic. Just look at her poise with all that paparazzi!

I know she doesn't seem to care too much about her regular day clothes, but I think that adds to her stunningness on the red carpet and appearances. It makes her a regular person with an alternate, fabulous persona.

This season's award shows and red carpets really showed off her beautiful hourglass figure. And that blue dress just pops on the red carpet and complements her skin.
I think the neckline of the black dress is stunning, and adds interest to an otherwise standard black dress.

I don't know if I loved her Oscar dress, but I loved the way she pulled it off--subtle makeup, clean, chic hair, and a voluptuous body. And she seemed like she knew she was going to win, so that probably helped her confidence.

Back to StyleIdol

Ok, so I abandoned this blog for a while. A LONG while. But I think I'm going to come back to it. I just reread some of the posts I had made, and I think they are really good. And I miss writing about people whose style I adore.
I just need a little more inspiration. I have the time. It is much better to spend it on this than playing Spider Solitaire. I can't promise a post every day, or even every week, but I'm going to get back on it!

OK, so who should be next? I have some ideas, but if you suggest some, I think that would be fun too!!!

America Ferrera

Did I ever mention how beautiful America Ferrera is? Goregeous. And her show, Ugly Betty, is so sweet, so heartwarming, so feel good!

I saw her on the View the other day (I admit it, I was watching bad daytime TV...) and she looked especially good in a striking red dress. Here's a clip:
